YouGov polling finds the NHS is the only area where more people trust Corbyn on than distrust him

There appears to be no honeymoon for Mr Corbyn

The YouGov polling on behalf of the Times makes grim reading for Mr Corbyn though it may not be initially as bad as first reading if you put some of the figures into context. Only 23% trusting Corbyn on the economy isn’t that bad when you remember that prior to the general election a similar percent trusted Ed Miliband and Ed Balls to run the economy better than David Cameron and George Osborne. It is explains why he is only trusted on the NHS an area where the Labour brand has an advantage over the Tories.

The other context is that fieldwork for this poll was Tuesday and Wednesday so it would have been conducted in the aftermath of the chaotic shadow cabinet reshuffle, the comment and criticism he received for his dress sense and not singing God Save The Queen at the seventy fifth anniversary of the Battle of Britain ceremony where his patriotism was questioned so again the questions about the voters trusting him on defence and terrorism in particular weren’t conducted at the optimal time for him.

Right now there appears to be no widespread public goodwill towards him save for the people that voted for him as when compare how people expect Corbyn to do when we compare how voters expected Ed Miliband to do when he was first elected.

There are just under fifty six months until the next general election Jeremy Corbyn has time to turn the narrative around he just needs to avoid going out of his way to tread on every available banana skin. The fears that opponents of Corbyn within the Labour party (and the hopes of the Tory party) are being realised with this polling.
